Payment Process

Here is step-by-step breakdown of how a Visa or MasterCard payment works in our online shop.

1. Customer Adds Items to Cart & Proceeds to Checkout

The customer browses the online store, selects items, and proceeds to the checkout page.
At our stores they can pay with Visa or MasterCard as their payment method.

2. Customer Enters Payment Details
The checkout page presents 2 forms: the billing/shipping information and a payment form, the latter requiring the customer to enter:

Card Number (16-digit PAN for Visa/MasterCard)
Printed Name
Expiry month
Expiry year
CVV/CVC Code (3-digit security code on the back of the card)

3. Payment Information is Sent to our Payment Processor
Once the customer submits the payment, our online store’s Payment Gateway encrypts the card details and sends them to the Payment Processor.
The payment processor forwards the transaction request to the Card Network (Visa or MasterCard).

4. Transaction is Routed to the Customer’s Issuing Bank
Visa/MasterCard forwards the transaction to the cardholder’s issuing bank (the bank that issued the customer’s card).
The issuing bank performs checks to determine whether to approve or decline the transaction. It considers:
Sufficient Funds – Is there enough balance or credit available?
Fraud Detection – Does the transaction match the customer’s typical spending patterns?
Card Status – Is the card valid and not blocked, expired, or reported stolen?

5. Issuing Bank Sends a Response (Approval or Decline)
If everything is fine, the issuing bank approves the payment and sends an authorization code back through Visa/MasterCard to our payment processor.
If there’s an issue (e.g., insufficient funds, expired card, suspected fraud), the issuing bank declines the transaction.

6. We Receive Payment Confirmation
Our payment processor receives the authorization response and informs us whether the payment was successful or declined.
If approved, the customer will see a payment confirmation message.
If declined, the customer will be asked to retry the payment or use a different card.
